A personal trainer is a perfect job for an uber-fit person or someone who wants to help other people to get healthy. You could learn a lot about fitness and nutrition from day to day and it’s a job that comes with a lot of perks.

As a personal trainer, you’re hoping to build a loyal, engaged clientele for your business. But how do you motivate personal training clients?

Do you feel like you’re struggling to keep your clients training? You need to work out a training plan of your own. Keep reading to learn how to motivate clients better.

Be a Positive Role Model

If you’re not living a healthy lifestyle, it’s going to be hard to convince your personal training clients that they should. So, be a positive role model by eating healthy, exercising regularly, and getting adequate sleep. Remember, lead your clients by example.

Also, be encouraging and upbeat. Your clients will more likely stick with their goals if they’re enjoying working out. A plus would be if they feel supported by their trainer.

Know Your Clients on a Personal Level

When you take the time to get to know your clients on a personal level, it can help you to better understand what motivates them. This knowledge will enable you to design training programs and give guidance that is tailored to each individual.

As you get to know your clients, you will also build trust and rapport, which are essential ingredients for a successful trainer-client relationship. When your clients feel that you are invested in their success, they will be more likely to stick with your program and see results.

Understand What Motivates Them Individually

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how to motivate your personal training clients. Rather, the key is to understand what motivates them individually.

Some clients may be highly motivated by the prospect of seeing results, while others may be more interested in the zone of optimal performance or the social aspects of working out with others. Still, others may need a more individualized approach.

Regardless if you’re a physical therapist, running coach, or yoga instructor, the key is to ask your personal training clients what motivates them and tailor your training accordingly. With the right mix of motivation, you can help your clients achieve their fitness goals.

Help Them Set Realistic Goals

Have them set small, achievable goals at first. Once they accomplish these smaller goals, they will be more likely to set and achieve larger goals. You can help them by providing encouragement and support along the way.

You can also help them by providing resources, such as goal-setting sheets or articles on goal-setting.

Offer Positive Reinforcement

Offering positive reinforcement is a great way to motivate your personal training clients. When clients see that they are making progress and that their efforts are paying off, they are more likely to stick with their workout routine and continue seeing results.

Complimenting clients on their progress, helping them set new goals, and providing encouragement are also great ways to keep them motivated.

Learning How to Motivate the Right Way

If you’re looking to motivate your personal training clients, these are the few key things you can do. Learning how to motivate is important as a personal trainer.

If you’re not good at motivating clients, you won’t have many repeat clients. So, go out there and motivate people the right way today!
